The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
